To qualify for the opportunity card, you must meet three preconditions and reach enough points in 8 categories.

Criteria for the Opportunity Card Qualifications Up to 6 points for a university degree or vocational training + 1 point for shortage occupations.

Experience Up to 3 points if you have work experience that matches your formal qualifications.

Age 2 points if you are 35 or younger or 1 point if you are between 36 and 40 years old.

Language skills Up to 4 points for your German and English language skills.

Previous stays in Germany 1 point if you have previously lived in Germany for at least 6 months.

Spouses 1 point if your spouse also meets the requirements for an opportunity card.

Things to remember The new immigration law has just been passed and will go into effect this November. While applications won't be open for a few more months, it's crucial to keep up to date and prepare for the launch of the Opportunity Card on time. Be aware that the number of Opportunity Cards available annually will be limited to 25,000, and there will only be a limited number of appointments per country for this visa category.
